The Sierra Leone Football Association has officially opened applications for the position of Head Coach of the Leone Stars, signaling a new phase in the technical leadership of the national team.
In a public notice issued by the association, the role is described as central to shaping the direction and performance of the senior men’s national side. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the team, including squad selection, match preparation, training programmes and overall performance in international competitions.
The SLFA stated that the Head Coach will be expected to provide strong leadership, develop tactical strategies and build a competitive team capable of representing Sierra Leone effectively on the continental and global stage. The position also requires close collaboration with the association’s technical department to ensure alignment with broader football development goals.
According to the criteria outlined, applicants must possess top level coaching qualifications such as CAF A License, UEFA Pro License or an equivalent certification recognized in international football. In addition, candidates are required to have between five and ten years of experience coaching at senior level, with a proven track record of success in competitive football environments.
The association emphasized the importance of experience in managing high pressure situations, as well as the ability to work with diverse groups of players and technical staff. Strong communication skills and a clear football philosophy are also considered essential for the role.
Interested applicants are required to submit a comprehensive application package, including a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of coaching credentials, a technical proposal outlining their vision for the Leone Stars and professional references. The technical proposal is expected to highlight the candidate’s approach to team building, tactical organization and long term development of the squad.
Applications must be delivered to the SLFA Secretariat in Freetown or submitted through the association’s official email channels. The deadline for submission has been set for May 12, 2026.
The SLFA noted that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further stages of the recruitment process, which may include interviews and technical assessments.
The call for applications comes at a time when expectations are high for the Leone Stars to improve their performance and consistency in international competitions. Football stakeholders across the country have expressed hope that the appointment of a qualified and experienced coach will help unlock the team’s potential and strengthen its competitiveness.
As the search begins, attention will be focused on attracting candidates capable of delivering results while contributing to the long term growth of football in Sierra Leone.
