UBA Sierra Leone Welcomes another Sierra Leonean to its Board

On Thursday 10 March 2022, UBA Sierra Leone, a member of UBA Group, a leading Pan-African financial institution, increased the number of Sierra Leoneans on its board with the appointment and induction of Mr Desmond Gordon-Williams as a non-Executive Director of the bank.

This appointment brings to nine the number of its Board members with seven of them including the Board Chairman as Sierra Leoneans in line with the UBA Group’s strategic focus on localizing and domesticating its operations in all its countries of presence.

Mr Gordon-Williams is a seasoned professional, who comes with 35 years of diverse experience in executive management position in the areas of mining operations, engineering consulting, process design, project development and management in multi-national institutions across West Africa, North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Mr Gordon-Williams’ work in multi-national operating environments has not only earned him varied experience in strategic business planning and corporate governance but also made him serve on supervisory boards and committees to formulate and implement strategic objectives, policies and regulations alongside government and regulatory authorities.

“I am excited to be associated with UBA, one of the leading financial institutions in Sierra Leone and the African continent at large.  This is a wonderful opportunity to bring my wealth of experience and perspective from other sectors to contribute to the growth of the banking industry in Sierra Leone,” said Mr Desmond during the induction ceremony performed by the Chairman of UBA Sierra Leone, Mr Abdul Sheku Kargbo at the bank’s Head Office on Thursday, 10 February 2022.
