Garden Hall, Central University Campus, Saturday 11 March 2023 – The administration of Central University, located at 1 Silicon Hills, Mile 91 has installed into office professor Bob Karankay Conteh as vice Chancellor and principal of Central University.Welcoming the guests, the Deputy Chairman of the university Court, Professor Olufemi Julius Olapade, appreciated each invitee who despite their busy schedules were able to make it to the occasion. Professor Olapade underscored the event as very important in the annals of Central University.
He described the VC and principal professor Conteh as someone who has worked relentlessly towards the growth of education in Sierra Leone, and that his appointment as principal and vice Chancellor by the university court was never a mistake.
“Age is just a number, professor Conteh has the wherewithal to effectively man the affairs of Central University,” professor Olapade said.
On his path, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, elaborated extensively on the successes and achievements of Professor Bob Karankay Conteh. He recalled and narrated several developmental strides the learned Professor Conteh undertook and brought to the Njala University before leaving for the University of Makeni; and that installing him as Vice Chancellor and principal of Central University it is a step in the right direction.
Presenting the candidate and principal to the Chancellor of Central University, the erudite public orator of Central University, Sulaiman Mansaray who doubles as the Head of Mass Communication Department in his baritone voice; succinctly read out the profile of Professor Bob Karankay Conteh…who was accordingly installed as the substantive Vice Chancellor and principal of Central University by the University’s Chancellor Muckson Sesay.
Chancellor Muckson Sesay in his short but insightful statement recognized all the sister universities for witnessing the event. Chancellor Sesay noted that Central University was opened for partnership in every sphere.
The installed Vice Chancellor and principal professor Bob Karankay Conteh acknowledged the ceremony as a great day not only for him but for Central University as a whole. Professor Conteh assured the Chancellor and all present of putting up his utmost ability to defend the good image of Central University at all time.
“I call on you call to help me make Central University the best university not only in Sierra Leone but Africa and the world at large,” Prof. Conteh said.
He called on his fellow academics to help in achieving the three main principles of the university which are: research, teaching and community services.
Professor Conteh advised indigenes of Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom to embrace Central University as their university and to encourage their children to attend the university.
Professor Bod Conteh, re-emphasize the need for partnership. He pointed out that Central university is solely funded by a private individual hence there is a need for partnership with both public and private sectors organizations.
The need for the formation of an Association that will serve as a mouth-pice to articulate on issues bordering all private universities in the country climaxed Professor Conteh’s speech.
The event was witnessed by representatives from different universities in the country including Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
Vote of thanks by Madam Zainab Koroma climaxed the ceremony.
