World Bank Executive Directors Commend Progress at Sierra Leone’s 30MW Newton Solar Plant

Bank Group Executive Directors completed three days working visit Sierra Leone, ending field inspection critical infrastructure plus healthcare projects Kailahun District.

Delegation included seven Executive Directors three Alternate Directors, representing 67 countries holding 39% World Bank total voting power. Their visit marks one largest most significant missions Bank’s board country.

Spokesperson Madam Zainab Ahmed (representing Angola, Nigeria, South Africa) stated primary objective evaluate real-world impact Bank activities. Team focused understanding how interventions agriculture energy meets development needs while identifying emerging opportunities persistent challenges.

During courtesy call, Finance Minister Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura gave economic briefing highlighting government commitment National Development Plan. Key pillars: Human Capital Development prioritizing free quality education; Feed Salone Program targeting national food security; Infrastructure plus Energy modernizing power grid connectivity.

Minister Bangura thanked Bank advisory role plus Sierra Leone portfolio expansion $1 billion, stabilizing economy against external shocks including global inflation debt pressures faced since 2018.

Delegation spent weekend April 25–26 visiting multi-million dollar projects funded Bank IFC.
